Brickmen Kitchen + Bar • Kingston, NY
XD to WordPress Build
Brickmen Kitchen + Bar offers modern dining that puts a global spin on local Hudson Valley flavors. Founded by restaurateur Dave Amato, the brand combines a warm atmosphere with a vintage vibe inspired by Kingston’s industrial history. The name “Brickmen” nods to the city’s brickmaking legacy and Dave’s grandfather, Joseph “Joe” Amato, who was affectionately known as “Skookie” and “Papa Joe.”
I built the site in WordPress using custom theme options and front-end enhancements to match the approved XD layout. This included animated behaviors and layout details like a homepage-only header logo rule (hidden at first, revealed on scroll) and bold section styling elements to reinforce the brand’s visual identity.

Challenge
The site needed to follow the XD design closely while adding custom interactive behaviors—especially the homepage header rule where the logo should not appear initially, then fade in and sit centered once the user scrolls, while internal pages always show the logo at the top.
Solution
Implemented the header logo behavior with JavaScript + CSS, hiding it on initial homepage load and revealing it on scroll while keeping internal pages consistent. I also matched key layout details from the mockup (including the circular solid color block section styling) using custom styling and theme configuration.
